Day 8, May 20th
Today was a traveling day. We had to do over 500 km but we still managed to do some birding to break up the journey. We started doing our garage list which included a Tawny Pipit right by our picnic table, Black-headed Bunting, Golden Oriole, Nightingale and Ortolan Bunting to name but a few.
At the next stop by a small reservoir we added Shoveler which we hadn’t had so far. In a couple of hours driving we stopped again and this time we had a Golden Jackal walking across the fields. That would be a nice addition, wouldn’t it. Thank you very much.
We decided to make a small diversion from the road and check a site for White-backed Woodpecker and Red-breasted Flycatcher but it vain. We only enjoyed the superb beech forest with trees 200 years old.
We arrived in our hotel in Sofia right on time for dinner.
Day 9, May 21st
Today was the flight of our participants and had no time for birding. The trip was over and we did the wonderful list of 209 species.
“Thank you very much for organizing this for us!”, said the group participants, “You are a great birder and your hearing is unbelievable! You were amazing!”, they added.
