Just returned from a fantastic landscape photography trip around Karlukovo Bulgaria. Just over a 100 km away from Sofia is situated a picturesque кarst region known for its caves and cliffs. A few friends and I decided to visit the area and take some pictures.
The first place we visited was a small waterfall which still had some water. Surprisingly the hot summer days haven’t deprived it from water and we spend the next couple of hours experimenting with the falling water. Here are some pics:
We spent at least 2 hours at the waterfall and decided to go to our place for the night. It was a chalet with fantastic view. We wanted to arrive early to have time and explore the area. Our plan was to find suitable places for sunset pictures but weren’t very successful. Anyway we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring an “open” cave with two entrances. “Here is where we shall be taking our night time photos.” – we all agreed.
We had the sunset from the terrace of our lodge. It wasn’t that spectacular but it was pleasant enjoying it. Here is what it looked like:
After dinner was time for night time photos. It was quite an experience to be out there at night. We spent a couple of hours in the cave trying to get the stars. Soon it was 3 a.m. when we felt like going to be bed.
In the next day we decided to lay in and got up after 9 a.m. Again we enjoyed the morning coffee looking at the picturesque valley. We spent the afternoon at a waterfall cooling down in the river.
Thus we didn’t realised it was already 3 p.m. and headed to Sofia. It was a great weekend.
