Best Rose-coloured Starling images
The beginning of July was very productive for some of my best images of Rose-coloured Starling. At the beginning of June i heard from a colleague about a new site for Rose-coloured Starling photography not far from where i was going to be in Eastern Bulgaria. Thus i quickly planned a trip directly after a workshop for Wallcreeper photography that resulted in some of my best photos of Wallcreepers.
Rose-coloured starling photography site
The site was in an abandoned quarry and very suitable for photography at first morning light. It was open from the East and exposed to the rising Sun. This gave me the opportunity to experiment and do two different sessions. The first was with direct sunlight onto the object and the second was against the light.
Rose-coloured Starlings facts
These are some truly amazing birds with very interesting social dynamics. They usually nest in large colonies counting hundreds of pairs. The Starlings usually lay 3-6 eggs and when they hatch, there are literary thousands of birds flying around you. The birds’ nesting is very dependent on availability of food sources like crickets, grasshoppers, and caterpillars which are the main food source for feeding the chicks. Although parents are meant to feed mainly their own chicks, my observations suggested that this was not always true. Once an adult is back to its particular nest or chicks, all juvenile birds from the area will approach the adult bird and start beginning for food. Thus, the adult gives up at certain stage and feeds someone else’s chick.
Rosy-starling photography
Best rose-coloured starling images can be taken nearly every year in Bulgaria. The birds start arriving in mid May and settle down for nesting at the beginning of June. After that, there is about a month when you can come and photograph them. The incubation period is about 14 days and the nesting period is about 24 days. So any time from the end of June to beginning of July is great for Rose-coloured Starling photography. If you come at the beginning of July, you can also combine the visit with a session for Wallcreeper photography. If interested in Rose-coloured Starling photography with me, just drop me a line.

Top images Iordan. Especially those against the light are stunning.
Thank you very much, Frank! It was great fun spending time with these superb birds. Had a family with Little Owls not far from them.
